How do I set up my API key?
Open Agent Mac from the menu bar, go to Settings, and paste your API key for your chosen provider. Local models need no key: install Ollama, let Agent Mac install llama.cpp on your Mac for you, or use Apple’s on-device model (macOS 26 or later on Apple Silicon, through the free apfel helper). Keys are stored securely in your macOS Keychain.
Which AI providers are supported?
Agent Mac supports 7 providers: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, Moonshot Kimi, Ollama (local models), llama.cpp (open models on your Mac, a rented cloud GPU or your own server), and Apple’s on-device Foundation Model (no API key; needs macOS 26 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac with Apple Intelligence turned on, plus the free apfel helper, installed once with Homebrew and left running). You can switch between providers at any time.
How is Agent Mac different from Siri?
Siri can answer questions and set timers — Agent Mac actually does things. It manages your files, runs commands, browses the web, and automates real tasks. Think of it as the AI personal assistant your Mac should have always had.
Is Agent Mac an alternative to Openclaw?
Yes. Agent Mac is also a great Openclaw alternative for macOS, with a native menu bar experience, file access, browser automation, and transparent agent actions — but designed for everyone, not just power users.
Is my data sent to your servers?
Your conversations, files, prompts and API keys are never sent to us. AI requests go directly from your Mac to the provider you choose. Agent Mac does contact agentmac.app to record when your free trial began, to check your licence and to look for updates. The trial and licence checks send a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware identifier, never the identifier itself. If you use “Request a connector”, it also sends the name of the service and any note you type. Our Privacy Policy lists exactly what is sent.
How do I move my licence to another Mac?
A licence key works on one Mac at a time. On the old Mac, open Settings > License and click Deactivate. Then enter the key on the new Mac.
What happens to my licence if I get a refund?
A full refund deactivates the key, and any free Agent Browser licence that came with the purchase. Agent Mac returns to its unlicensed state the next time it checks.
What macOS version do I need?
Agent Mac requires macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later, on either Apple Silicon or Intel Macs.
How do I uninstall Agent Mac?
Quit Agent Mac from its menu-bar icon (Quit Agent Mac), then drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash. To remove its data too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/AgentMac, ~/.agentmac and ~/Library/Preferences/com.agentmac.app.plist, then search Keychain Access for “agentmac” and delete the items it finds. Backups are kept separately and stay until you delete them. By default they are in an AgentMac Backups folder in iCloud Drive, or in ~/Library/Application Support/AgentMac Backups if iCloud Drive is off, or in the folder you chose.
What does the purchase include?
The £44.99 one-time payment gives you lifetime access to the current version of Agent Mac with all features. Future major upgrades or in-app purchases may be priced separately.
Can I see what the agent is doing?
Yes — full transparency is a core principle. Every action the agent takes (file reads, commands, web browsing, decisions) is visible to you in real time.
